Carers are walking a mile with a smile

Carers and the Devon Carers team are celebrating Carers Week, 8th to 14th June, by walking a mile with a smile, the aim of which is to walk the perimeter of Devon, 350 miles in total.

Sadie Clarke, Devon Carers Community Engagement Manager, said “Making caring visible is the theme of Carers Week this year. As well as hosting a variety of online workshops and activities, we are encouraging carers and our team to get out and walk a mile with a smile. All miles will be recorded and shared on our website, with our goal to reach 350 miles – a walk around Devon”.
“We provide support to over 20,000 carers across the county and although we recognise the valuable role unpaid carers play throughout the year, carers week is an opportunity for us to raise awareness and say a huge thank you”.

Across the UK 3 in 5 people will be carers at some point in their lives. Every day another 6,000 people take on a caring responsibility, that equals over 2 million people each year. (Carers UK)

As part of Carers Week Devon Carers will have a range of online workshops and activities, including virtual garden tours, quiz, crafts and wellbeing sessions, taking place, please visit www.devoncarers.org.uk for more information.
