This meditation can be done laying down or sitting with your head supported in a comfortable position and is aimed at promoting a relaxation response by taking a systematic journey around the body while using mindful breath awareness. Our breath is always with us and is a natural resource for relaxation and we do this automatically, something that we just take for granted.

By bringing our conscious awareness to our breath and body we can slow down, calm our mind chatter and experience relaxation.  This life skill can then be used within our daily lives when we become overwhelmed or feel anxious. This meditation is an adaptation of the Body Scan from the book Mindfulness, a practical guide to Finding Peace in a Frantic World by Mark Williams and Danny Penman.  This book comes with a CD with a selection of Mindfulness meditations which may be of interest.
