Devon Carers can support carers of people living with autism in several ways.
The initial conversation will ensure you have information about:
- Devon-wide specialist organisations
- Any carers groups and peer support in your area, some of which are specifically for carers of people living with autism
We offer courses on basic knowledge and skills in supporting you in your caring role.
We also run sessions specifically on understanding autism as well as other courses, including how to maintain your own health and wellbeing whilst caring.
Our courses offer opportunities to meet other carers in similar situations to learn from one another.

Ambitious about Autism
Ambitious about Autism supports children and young people with autism. They run specialist education services, an award-winning employment programme with children and young people at the heart of their charity’s decision-making, policy work and campaigning.
They also use their expertise to deliver training and consultancy to a wide range of organisations to improve awareness and understanding of autism.
Autism education trust
The AET supports effective education practice with advice on choosing ASC friendly schools, strategies for supporting parents/children/schools to work together and useful section on understanding an ASC diagnosis.
Bis-net
Bis-net offers a wide range of services including training courses for parents caring for children with autism.
Devon Link-Up
Devon Link Up is an independent service for people who have learning disabilities and or Autism. They offer a free Autism Alert Card which tells the emergency to services that they may need to change their approach because the card holder is Autistic. There is no requirement for an official diagnosis or doctors letter to obtain a card.

The society provides information, support and pioneering services, and campaign for a better world for autistic people.
Sibs
Sibs provides various helpful guides for adult siblings of people with a lifelong learning disability and/or autism.
