Care Act 2014
The Care Act 2014 is the most significant change in English social care law for sixty years, came into effect from 1stApril 2015 to replace a host of out-of-date and often confusing care laws.
This legislation spells out how peoples care and support needs should be met and introduces the right to an assessment for anyone, including carers and self-funders, in need of support. There is increased emphasis on outcomes and helping people to connect with their local community. It also ensures that eligibility for services is consistent across England.
Importantly, the Care Act also changes many aspects of how support is arranged, and aims to give greater control and influence to those in need of support.
